Victorian terrace SOS sound from neighbours new or old build best?

Searching for a house to buy - (we have sold ours and are currently renting as we have moved across the country) . I thought I had found the dream home was so excited- it is a victorian house seemingly in good nick and mid terrace . However, there next door on both sides there are flats . I am wondering about neighbour noise levels. Should I be going for a newer build that is detached? Lived in a 1940's terrace before and that was not great sound proofing howerever neightbours were quiet . What to do. Any experiences or ideas please?

Having flats each side might mean someone's dishwasher or washi Nd machine whirring the other side of the wall from your bed head every night. Find out the layout of the adjacent houses if you can.

Look for a detached or a stone house. We rarely here any noise from next door. She was worried when first baby was born. Worried about us being disturbed at night. We never heard him. Occasionally here them running up the stairs but that’s it.
Our own inside walls are 15 “ and 17” thick 😁

Thanks so much for your replies. I will ask about lay out; Have now booked some vieweings for small detached bungalow T Preview P. alos glad to hear your house in soundproof :-) Earsup. Stone houses BB5, will check that out. I'd love a victorian detached but this is out of our price range hence looking at 1940's bungalow but has a wrap around garden and internal work to be done.

We used to live in a Victorian terrace in London – flats on both sides but never heard a single sound from next door. We now live in a 1930s semi in the suburbs and can hear everything from next door – luckily a very quiet elderly couple.
