Holiday hone in Florida keys.

We are currently thinking of buying a holiday home in the Florida keys. With the intention of eventually spending about 6 months of the year there when the children are adults. Has anyone got any experience of buying a home in Florida and what are the keys things to consider. Thanks.

We had a pair of holiday homes there and we used an agent to rent them out for us. Was ok as they were both in good order. The one time we had a leak we noticed the service agent charged considerably more than was reasonable. They make a BIG markup on anything like repairs so it wipes out a larger part of your investment return.
So if you are trying to grow funds it's not good, especially if the agent seems to report floods or electric problems on a regular basis ( IMO wether there actually is a problem or not !!!).

Thanks we have a floater. Do you mind saying where in Florida you decided to buy and the reasons for it?

I wouldn't again as all the agents seem to fabricate expensive problems once they figure out you are too far away to check .
