Carpet on stairs

What are people's views on carpet on stairs? I'm buying a house that will be used as a rental and there is currently no carpet on the stairs. They look quite nice but what is it like living in a property with uncarpeted stairs? I'm thinking safety and noise-wise. Or any other consideration I have missed. Can it not being carpeted cause damage? I'm clueless Thanks.

we currently have no carpet on our stairs my son is doing the painting and its noisy, feels hard under foot and I will be ordering carpet as soon as I can , as yours is a rental get the heaviest duty carpet you can afford
