Living in Pittville - Any Cheltonians out there able to comment

We are moving to Cheltenham later this year. We have been looking at houses all around Cheltenham but there is a property we especially like on the edge of Pittville BUT someone (I don't know her well enough to go back and ask) warned me against living near Whaddon due to crime and anti-social behaviour. The property we like has been on the market for a few months and I am also worried that perhaps it is on a run rat along the All Saints Road. I would love a steer from someone local x

Maybe consider Leckhampton instead?

Is the house on All Saints Road? The area is nice but that road does get a fair amount of traffic. You would be walking distance to Pitville park though which is lovely

Bits of pittville are very nice, but it is flanked by waddon & St. Paul's which are less nice. Also if you have children, pitville school doesn't have a brilliant reputation, however living near to pitville park is lovely and there are some lovely old properties around the park, or out towards battledown.

Pittville has some nice areas and some not so nice. There are an awful lot of rentals/bedsits in that part of Cheltenham, with a lot of students from the University. It's one of the rougher parts of town. All Saints Road is definately a rat run, I hate to say and a very busy road.

The Leckhampton area is a lot nicer, I would agree with the PP or Charlton Kings and Prestbury.

Thank you for all of your useful input. House is near Pittville Circus and we saw/ heard quite a few cars come flying past when we viewed it. It is so hard to get the hang of a town when you don't live there. My DH isn't keen on Leckhampton and Charlton Kings seems £££. We have also been astonished by some of the for sale prices. Another contender is in Montpellier - is that a nicer part?

Montpellier is quite a busy part of town, great for the bars and restaurants and a good little niche shopping area. There are a lot of flats in the area, especially blending into Lansdown but there are some quieter streets going towards Tivoli. There are lots of nice little back streets too from the Tivoli area up towards Bath Road/Leckhampton.

Montpellier is lovely. I stayed with a relative there last year and I loved all the individual shops.

I rented a flat in Pittville years ago. The flat was beautiful, overlooking a square. The building was probably listed. All good on the surface. However, I didn’t realise at the time that Pittville was a walk-through for rougher areas, so we would often have rubbish (take away packaging, cans, etc) chucked outside the front of the building. Also weirdos would hang around in the beautiful square. I once saw things being stashed in the hedge and was sure people were dealing there. A sign later appeared from the police, saying the police were monitoring activity in the area. I would recommend you be really careful and doing your homework before moving to that side of Cheltenham.
