Best Home Intercom System for Big House?

MsMeNz · 17/02/2020 20:53

Hi everyone, I appreciate it's a nice problem to have but our house is fairly large and honestly me and DH are sick of constantly shouting at the top of voices to contact kids elsewhere in the house without constant chasing after them all (6-11) just drives us all crazy especially with youngest having a hearing problem. I remember as a child going to a friend's house and they had an inbuilt intercom system even thirty years ago so they must be around now maybe using WiFi? But all I can seem to find online now is still old school phone looking intercom systems. Has anyone else found a good tech solution to this? Thanks! X

I think you can link amazon echos or similar to do this

itsUnderMyPillow · 17/02/2020 20:59

Ours are older so we just call or text

Amazon alexa announcements over a home group or sub group. Echo dots are quite cheap, and have reasonable sound quality too. You can call individual rooms too.

Oh thank you for your quick responses! I had no idea dots could do that! I'll look into that tonight!

Alexa. She's a bloody god send. You can announce to all or individuals. It's great

We use our echos too , have one in every room. Didn't buy them for this purpose but our older children started using them speak and now we all do it.

Yep I use the dots too. I can drop in on one of them from anywhere with the app too so I even use them to pass messages on to the teens when I’m at work! (God forbid they put the Xbox controller down and look at the phone, they’d probs crumble to dust)

We had a hand bell for a while & I used to ring it to signal come downstairs. Now I text.

Alexa.

You can just drop in to specific Dots like a phone line, or broadcast a message, or set up routines. I have a routine where I say "alexa, fetch the children" into downstairs and the ones upstairs start playing bells and telling them to come down. There's one for food as well. And then reminders every 10 minutes on week day mornings because it's always been a surprise to them that they actually have to actively get ready for school.
