Buying in Bovey Tracey/ Ivybridge which one to choose??!

Hi, we are thinking on buying a house In Devon but we’re very recent to the area, just a couple months living in Devon, so not much info about anything. We will need to commute between Plymouth and Exeter so will have to find something in between, so far checking Ivybridge and Bovey Tracey as they sit on the A38 and far away from it enough to be quiet. Is Bovey Tracey a nice place to live and raise a family in terms of transport and schools?? We have been looking, the prices are a bit scary. So between Bovey and Ivybridge. Can i pleaseeee have some feedback, much appreciated. 😃😃

Ivybridge currently having loads of new builds going up, but without the necessary infrastructure, so no new schools, no new doctor's surgeries etc. Friends of ours live there and he wants to leave as he finds it too built up now.

Have you looked at Modbury, Totnes Buckfastleigh and Ashburton?

As for Ivybridge, we are currently renting in here and i have the same impression. Good to know the trends, because there is indeed a lot of new builds and once they are all sold, 😬😬. The one thing i do like is having a gym which keeps me doing something in the rainy days.

We have looked at Buckfastleigh and Ashburton, however most houses that we liked sit right on A38 and we would like a more quiet location. We haven’t check the other ones, but Modbury would increase mileage to Exeter, so thats a no. Thanks

I'd suck it up for a lovely house in Modbury. A friend used to commute to Bristol every day from there; and did the Plymouth commute as well at times, so it is doable.

Personally I wouldn’t choose either, Ashburton & Buckfastleigh are both far far nicer. And I grew up in Totnes which is lovely but expensive.... good train commute to Exeter & Plymouth.

If you are really set on those 2 places then I’d probably choose Ivybridge.

I grew up in ivybridge. It’s a bit of a ‘nothing’ place in that it has no personality etc but the secondary school has always had a good
Reputation, easy access to the moors, and the cities as well as not far from some lovely beaches.

Thanks for The feedback, i guess its a matter of looking at as many houses as possible every were and then decide, we don't have a family yet, so maybe secondary schools might be thinking a bit ahead but its always good to know as i do like to plan things ahead, maybe too much. The only thing i have to complain about Devon is the Rain, can it please stop!! But we are so enjoying this peace and quiet.
