We are in the process of renovating our Victorian home. I have hundreds if books and we have decided to have floor to picture rail bookcases built in along one wall of our sitting room. It’s about 4m long by 2.5 m high. We have received 2 quotes, one for £5k plus VAT and another for £11,900 plus Vat. We almost passed out with the second quote! We have been warned that as our home is quite big many contractors will take a chance.....The thing is we have no idea what these things should cost. What are your views on the quotes? It includes spray painting the wood and moving the coving to run along the front. It just seems a huge amount of money.......

Hi jodan

I had something similar built, floor to ceiling about 3m wide. Cost was £4k and then £700ish to be painted. So, the £5k quote seems pretty good, 11.5k sounds crazy.

If it's any help, I am thrilled with mine and although I worried about spending so much, it was worth every penny!

We had the entire room (apart from the window wall!) fitted with bookcases & floor cupboards with bookcases above on either side of the fireplace. Wood veneer finish. £4k 7 years ago, London. Looks fantastic.
