Boiler issues - help!

So I have a difficult decision to make. I have an old (30+ years) sealed system boiler, hot water cylinder in airing cupboard and cold water tank and header tank in loft.
The cold water tank must be replaced so I am thinking do I get rid of it and the cylinder and take the opportunity to get a more efficient boiler.
Surely mine can't carry on for much longer?
Does anyone have any experience of replacing their system, his did it work out? How long did it take and was it very expensive? Thank you.

If you have a sealed system boiler and it is still working well, I wouldn't necessarily go to the lengths of replacing it just yet. If you have a header tank in your loft, as well as a cold water tank, then it sounds like you don't actually have a sealed system. What you should probably look at doing, if you do have a sealed system, is replacing your hot water cylinder, for a newer two coil hw cylinder. This gives you the option, later on down the line for upgrading to solar thermal hot water heating. It future proofs the installation, even if you decide to sell the house later on without having installed anything extra. Plus, you should save on house insurance, by removing the tanks from your loft and saving on heat loss from your cylinder, which will knock your energy bills down

we had an old oil range replaced recently with a new combi boiler...always swore I would never have one again as the one we had 20 odd years ago was just trouble

so the upshot is we have had a 500l oil top up since October, normally we'd have had at least a full top up and maybe more this time of year, so we are already saving on oil costs

The house is so much warmer

My spare room is much bigger since the hot water cylinder is gone and when I have some spare money I can get the cupboard where the cold water tank was converted into something useful.

what colour is the cylinder?

I am puzzled that you call it "sealed" but have a "header tank" in the loft.

Thank you all! I was told by a family member it was a "sealed system" maybe it isn't.
@PigletJohn the cylinder in the airing cupboard is bluey green and is 5 years old, previous to that I had to have 2 in 6 years! We are in a hard water area.

is there a pressure gauge on the boiler?

Sounds more like a conventional boiler set up. If we get a new boiler we'd probably just replace like with like as the conventional system works well for us
