Command strips/hooks help please

Hello

I have recently learned that command strips exist and think they look really useful.

I want to use them on painted walls but it says to clean the area with rubbing alcohol first and I feel like if I do that it’s just going to remove the paint surely?

Does anyone use them then without using rubbing alcohol first and do they still work, even if not as well?
Or is best to just use them on different surface?

And if I do follow all the instructions exactly so they actually work and last a long time?

Also any tips for unusual uses for then to help me get the house a bit more organised would be brilliant Smile

I broke a toe due to the crappy things not holding a picture on a wall .

I have them specifically in my rental tenancy not to use them, I’m guessing they sometimes do remove paint

They've worked brilliantly for us, you just have to make sure you're buying the correct size to hold the weight you want it to support. Some I''ve had up for years with no problems.

I've never used alcohol to clean a painted surface when installing them. I imagine they do that to remove any grease or film. If the paint is clean, carry on.

I’ve just used them on clean paint , no issues but be sure to use the right ones for the weight you’re hanging up - use extra if you have them

Thank you all

The place has been painted recently so I’m just going to go for it with no cleaning but maybe double up, use them in places where my feet are never likely to be near (!), or if neither of the above just use them for towels.

Also in case I love them does anyone know the cheapest place to get a good range? I’ve heard amazon has loads available but the majority are fake and not as sticky.

I've always bought mine on amazon and never gotten a fake. Make sure they're sold by amazon and not a third party seller.

I never bothered wiping the wall with anything first and they work perfectly. Never had any issues. I've only used them on small, quite light-weight frames though so no experience with anything bigger than 8x6. The broken toe a previous poster mentioned sounds awful!
