My little monster turned down the thermostat to its lowest setting.. now the heating won't turn on.
We rent so I am unsure what to do, I tried turning the thermostat all the way to 21 and still nothing, all 3 pipes on the boiler are getting hot, the boiler will fire up to 75 then go down to only display the water pressure of 1.1 am I being daft here or is there a reason now why the heating wont turn back on again? We are getting hot water just fine. I just don't want to call the landlord or outsource an engineer if it is just a pressing a switch and a waiting game. Hopefully,I posted in the right place. I'm sure someone must have had the same problem and that surely turning the thermostat all the way down wouldn't just make the boiler break considering it is not displaying any error signals. What kind of thermostat is it? On the wall or a wireless one? Is it possible it's not communicating with the boiler? Do you have the manual for the boiler, etc and, if not, could you find them online and download them?

mine did this once. No idea why and hasnt happened since, can you see a reset button on your boiler? or even turn it off at the wall?

i know its cliche but i actually did turn my off and back on again, and reset it and it was fine after.

Hi everyone Smile thanks for all your replies!
The boiler is a glow worm.
The thermostat is a Honeywell that is located on the wall for people to adjust the temperature.
I have pressed the restart button and turned it on and off again several times with no luck.
I have checked to see if the timer settings are ok.. and all good.
The boiler displays a digital flame and the pipes underneath all get hot,apart from one pipe which I am assuming it is the gas pipe which should not get hot. The boiler occasionally will make a typical boiler noise and then the digital display rises from 50 to the temperature of 75 then displays then afterwards displays 1.1 water pressure, I think? As most online videos say 1.0 and above is ok. I am assuming when the digital flame is displayed this is the boiler heating the system, as when it is hot water a tap is displayed.
I am just assuming because it's been 24 hrs and I did not notice the thermostat being turned all the way down that now the boiler has essentially turned off even though it is on at the mains unit as the thermostat is not 'talking' to the boiler as it has not hit below the lowest setting. All I can assume is that the boiler is taking it's time to "power up"... I have had the thermostat on 21 since last night and was hoping that in the morning it would have magically fixed itself,I turned it on and off again and maybe that's my mistake as now it is taking a long time to heat up again??? I feel literally so dumb when it comes to this stuff.

Yes I did.. I am assuming everything is working,it could not just break down from the thermostat being turned down. I'm such a dits when it comes to this kind of stuff, when you tell a child not to do something they will in fact do it.. haha oh well.. hopefully will turn on magically soon!

Hiya,lSmile am not so tech savvy I'm afraid so I do not know how to add a photo here.
I haven't been able to monitor when the digital display rises,but it is very long intervals and the radiators itself are stone cold.

if the boiler is firing, and using gas, then it is producing heat. That heat must be going somewhere. If not, the boiler would go from cold to excessively hot in less than a minute.

If you have a hot-water cylinder that can absorb quite a lot of heat, but will result in the tapewter being surprisingly hot.

If you have a phone that can take pictures, or a digital camera, and a USB lead that plugs into your computer, it is possible to upload photos. There may be a how-to-do-it-guide already, or maybe someone can provide guidance.

I have dug up some information on how to post photos on hers but it seems to only be available on certain forums apparently there is meant to be a paperclip to attach a photo and I cannot see it at all. I feel like such a failure can't post an image or get my central heating to work. Just made hot water bottles.Sad

OP, if you can't post a pic, upload it here and paste the link to us -m.imgur.com/ and then we can see it :)

I had the same issue and sort of had to reboot the boiler by turning the thermostat up to maximum and then turning the boiler off and on - maybe try that?

Thanks so much for thisSmile, I will do it when I have some time. I have no idea where to turn off the boiler. All I have done is switch off the control panel in my bedroom and turn it on again and cranked up the thermostat in the hallway. The kitchen boiler has no plug or switch I can turn it off and on again?

Are you sure - have a wee look above it, it's often a bit hidden. If there is a reset button that'll do the trick too.

It is a glow worm flexicom 18sx.
I am just playing the waiting game to see if it will turn on. The pipes are hot on the boiler, the radiators are ice cold.

Yes hot water cylinder and timer.
I have checked both. Tried contacting landlord but no luck as they are abroad.
Hot water working in schedule for timed.
Press central heating button on or set for timed and will trigger boiler in kitchen to heat with pilot flame but no luck both pipes on boiler in and out getting hot but no luck. I will call a engineer in tomorrow and fork out the money he probably will just flip a switch or turn a knob.
I've restarted the boiler a couple of times just wont work

OK.

What colour is the cylinder?

Near the cylinder or the boiler, can you see a pump?

Is it surprisingly hot (hotter than the pipes going into it)?

Can you see a motorised valve nearby? Are both (or all three) pipes equally hot?

If you bleed the highest radiator in the house, does water squirt out forcefully, and without dying away?

It sounds like your motorised/zone/actuator valve has got stuck shut. If you can find it from pigletjohns helpful link, there should be a switch on one end that you can push over to one side and clip it into position.

Hi everyone it's the diverter valve, I was told he had to order one and when I asked the engineer how much it would cost he said he didnt know. I am unsure if I am being scammed or not.
