Deep pan drawers in kitchen not closing

Hi

I've got a new Howdens kitchen that was installed just before I moved in. The previous owner bought it as part of the renovations.

Under the hob there are two deep pan drawers - I use the top one for plates, and the bottom one for pans.

The bottom one keeps getting stuck and won't close under the top one without a big shove. The top one closes just fine. I've tried emptying them, putting less stuff in, etc but it just won't close properly on its own.

Is this just a thing with pan drawers? I've never had one before. Has anyone had the same and fixed it?

did something (like a plastic tub lid) fall behind the drawer?

no, something isn't working. As mentioned check for something trapped, otherwise there is a failure - sagging runner or something.

good luck getting anyone to fix it, though!

will it close ok without the top one being shut?

beckypv · 09/02/2020 14:29

Has one of the sides of the drawer unhooked? I sometimes find that happens and then I can’t close it.

I've checked behind and can't see anything that's fallen behind.

@TheGreatWave if I open the top one, I can shut the bottom one easily and flush. What does that mean?

If it shuts ok, then it isn't catching the floor. It may be the top one dropping slightly or the bottom one lifting.

When each drawer is closed are they level?

As it is inherited, you probably won't know if it was flat packed or ready assembled, but there is a chance the runners aren't quite lined up, so you may need to adjust these.

This might help homeguides.sfgate.com/adjust-kitchen-cabinet-drawer-glides-72674.html

It sounds like the weight of whatever is in the top one is pulling it down slightly and that is making the bottom one get stuck. Have the runners on the top one loosened at all- might just need screws tightening?

My dad came round and fixed it! The screw on the side had put the runner on just a touch to high and it was sticking. Thanks everyone!
