Despite their size, children manage to take up more space in a home than many parents ever bargain for, making ample storage space an even more precious commodity than it was before children for many parents. With this in mind, IKEA would like to hear about the ways you make the most out of your storage spaces and how it’s made your life easier.

Here’s what IKEA has to say: “The house can often feel crowded after the festive period but a few small changes can make a big difference. Adding hooks and storage solutions at a lower height gives children the freedom to tidy things up by themselves. Remember children love spending time where you are so a small kitchen trolley can make a perfect mobile Art & Craft or play station that can be moved tidied away quickly.”

Maybe you have a creative way for storing lunchboxes or tips for fitting more into cupboards without them overflowing? Perhaps you swear by hangers on doors, boxes inside drawers or folding your clothes in a specific way? How have you used IKEA furniture or accessories to make the most of your space?

Whatever your home storage hacks, share them on the thread below to be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £300 IKEA voucher.

Thanks and good luck!

I don't have any IKEA storage, but I'm reading with interest and making notes.....a shopping list of sorts. We are moving to a smaller home and some of these ideas sound fab. I like IKEA for bedding and rugs.

We live in a teeny tiny flat and have so much ikea storage in every room. Kallax in the hall doubles as shoe storage &bench to sit on. Kallax in kids bedroom for all the toys. Also have the Kallax boxes in the cupboard and the Stuva drawers. Love how deep these are. Eket boxes in living room as a bookcase, shelves and a cabinet. Kungsfors in the kitchen. Love that these are available in different lengths. Samla boxes under the bed and lackisar in the bathroom. Frakta bag as a washing basket. We're looking at getting some pax so would love to win this!

We don't have any ikea storage either but there's a new Ikea opening soon near us, will have to go and have a look, we do have over door hooks in bedrooms and bathroom though.

Hooks hanging over all inside doors for coats and jackets. Also building shelves right up to ceiling virtually.

Oh and the biggie, a lovely IKEA high-end in metal, so that DD can have a home studio for PC and homework underneath. It has a built in desk.

High sleeper with storage drawers underneath.

IKEA drawers on wheels for colouring pens etc-can he wheeled from room to room (we have hard floors so easy to wheel). Great as the DCs draw in various places.

Plastic drawers inside the built in wardrobes for uniform etc as their clothes are too short to need the full length of the wardrobe.

Kallax cubes everywhere! Great for displaying Lego models, various toys in the fabric boxes that fit inside, shoes in the hall etc.

Our designer cleverly suggested we buy a standard four ring induction hob and a couple of Ikea plug in induction hobs for the odd occasion we need more ( I was dead set on a 6 ring hob) she was so right! ( thank you Karen at OnePlan) as the handy Ikea rings mean we can cook breakfast bangers on the terrace or pancakes at the table and means we have plenty of rungs for busy cooking days ! Best of all it means we have more everyday usable worktop in our kitchen which we would have missed if we'd gone die a bigger hob.
Good luck everyone for the prize ! Star

Kallax was our game changer, we have them everywhere including the massive 5x5 one in the dining room. I also have a shelf in the kitchen with a hanging rod for all the utensils which made a big difference to worktop space.

I use a Kallax unit in the upstairs hallway to store all of the dirty washing, a different wash in each box and then when a box is full I take it down to the washing machine.

In the downstairs hallway we have the metal lockers, a locker for each person (plus a few extra for me). The idea being that school bags/random small toys and backpacks/going out toys live in there and can be grabbed on the way out.

Kallax units in the back of deep built in wardrobes, in the utility room, the office and the garage. Best invention ever!
Two of the wardrobes have malm drawers in them too.
We also have lift-up beds with unsaved storage in all four bedrooms and can fit a huge amount under there.

We love kallaxes like everyone else. The most useful one is by the front door with a box for each of our shoes.

The 1.5 carrier bag holders are fab for 'hacking', I currently have a load mounted on the wall in my craft room for vinyl storage and they are great for easy to access wrapping paper.

Kallax units in the playroom-different coloured boxes for each of the three kids and a fourth for shared toys! Ikea boxes in drawers and clothes folded Marie kondo style! X

Divan beds with underbed storage! I find that beds with drawers still require a lot of floor space to use, whereas Divan beds that lift up to access the storage can be used in much tighter spaces. Plus you don't lose any space around the drawer fittings!

D'oh! Google tells me that the type of bed in my previous post is an ottoman not a divan Grin

We are converting our spare room into our son's bedroom as his baby sister needs the nursery. We dry our clothes in the spare room in the Winter so have needed to change the way we do things:

2 x PRESSA Octopus hangers - they are great for underwear/socks/baby clothes & can hang on door handles around the house

BORSTAD Clothes dryer - this attaches to the wall & folds away. We plan to put it on our bathroom wall

Most of ours have been mentioned, but some different ones...

The wire basket coffee tables- keep blankets in in the living room, and spare cushions. When I was sleeping on the sofa due to DH being ill, I could shove all my bedding in them in the morning.

DD sleeps on the top bunk. She has a spice rack on her wall for her current books and her torch.

Underbed storage boxes for jumpers, PJ's etc.

We have a bar in the dining room. People are a bit surprised to find it's a kallax unit, and a small Billy with a glass door. The squares are perfect size for bottles.

Making sure every space in the house is utilised. We often have bookcases in hallways in they are wide. We've turned an under stairs area into a reading den. We have high up cupboards we use for out of season clothing. (This is over 6 houses).

Obviously not kids storage but I use one of the lallerod coffee tables as a portable bar/cocktail cart! The storage underneath is perfect for bottles and my cocktail shaker, glasses and other paraphernalia sit on top. I'm planning on spray painting it gold to match my dining room decor better.

I took 2 ikea kallax units, bolted them together, put them on their side and wheels on the bottom. Fitted a made to measure kitchen worktop on top
made a moveable cutting table with fabric storage for my workshop (which I also made with a friend from lots of recycled stuff)

I probably didnt make this up and saw it on pintrest but it works so well. I put all those wooden puzzle boards into A4 plastic zippy wallets. It works so well. Also ikea shoe storage Hemnes is a game changer perfect in hallway with 2 parts for shoes and a small drawer.

We dug out under the windows & made it into a handy cupboard. Also could be without my divan bed drawers.

Much of our old IKEA didn't fit into our new house due to low ceilings. I am planning to look at storage solutions for our loft which is partially boarded and the children use as a den. I think maybe some kallax units by the chimney breast and a 4x1 in the eaves.
