Fancy flames

I’m looking to install a dual sided fancy flame fire recessed into my double sided chimney. It is purely just for the look/ambiance, not for heat.

What would be the best for the most realistic flames - gas or electric? Does anyone have one or could recommend (thousands on google)

I’ve disregarded bio ethanol as I plan to use it every day & they are too expensive to run.

with a gas fire you can get actual flames, an electric will just give you a pretend effect. But you'll need a chimney or flue suitable for the type of fire you want. They often have a glass panel over the flames which IMO spoils the look, but the open ones are very wasteful of energy.

You can get iron stoves that look quite realistic with gas coals inside, and are reasonably efficient. IMO the gas logs are unconvincing.

Gas will look more realistic, electric ones however have come on a long way, have a look at these

Thanks.

@BettyBooJustDoinTheDoo - that’s exactly the sort of thing i presume I will have to have.

It’s not a real fireplace, just mock. There is gas but no flue. So I presume my only option really is electric.

Hoping a MN will give some recommendations...
