Help with colours

Hi all, in the middle of decorating a house we've just bought. Have stripped wallpaper and thoroughly sanded everything.

Using dulux timeless easycare for most of the walls in the house. (Timeless is a slightly off white if anyone isn't familiar)

Any idea what colour to do the ceiling: also timeless?

And any suggestions what colour to do the glosswork would be great. Currently it's pure brilliant white and I think it's a bit too white!

Should the coving around the ceiling match the skirting?

Is the wall colour in the photo timeless? It’s lovely!

Zandana123 · 26/01/2020 00:19

That's the colour we're painting over 😀

No idea what it is! Looks slightly blue/green grey in real life.

Timeless is quite white, but without the starkness of pure brilliant white.

Timeless is on the left, against some fairly yellow white (not sure which).

Think I'm leaning towards a creamy colour for the skirting and doors.

This is what I'm used to in our old house. Maybe It's just stuck in my head! 😀

We’ve used trade white for woodwork. Plain white but without the bright coldness of pure brilliant white.

Zandana123 · 26/01/2020 20:49

Thanks @minipie will take a look!

Here's a picture of dulux timeless with/without the work light against the pure brilliant that's on the door.

Not the best photos cos it's dark outside but you get the idea!

I haven’t got any pure brilliant white in my house. Off-whites appeal more.

MrsMummyBx · 27/01/2020 22:50

@zadana123 thanks for sharing pics, can’t help with the woodwork question but timeless is lovely - going to add that to my list of colours to use!

I have Wimborne White by F&B inside and out on all woodwork in every room. Interior and external paint as required but in the same colour. Makes life easy. It’s a warm white and goes with everything. It’s exceptional with Elephants Breath and warmer greys and neutrals. It’s the best “white”.

Zandana123 · 28/01/2020 07:29

@BubblesBuddy thanks! Wimborne white sounds like it could be perfect. Not as contrasting as our previous home, but I think it might go well with the timeless walls.

Modern eggshell or full gloss?

And would I then paint the ceiling coving with the same colour, but in Matt?

I'd paint the coving the same colour as the ceiling and yes, matte.

myidentitymycrisis · 28/01/2020 08:28

I use Timeless in most rooms and pure brilliant white but in a semi gloss/satin finish.
There was a fashion for matching gloss to walls in the 90’s but I found it too jarring between rooms, using white throughout ties it all together IMO

myidentitymycrisis · 28/01/2020 08:28

PS I also paint ceilings in white

wowfudge · 28/01/2020 10:55

I've always stuck with pbw ceilings and woodwork. Far less of an issue with pale colours, but you can make a room too box like if the ceiling is the same colour.

flirtygirl · 28/01/2020 11:01

Do the ceilings in timeless, no pint all that cutting in with another white when timeless is lovely.

I used to have timeless with white eggshell paintwork, it worked well as eggshell is a softer finish so not as bright as say a white gloss.
