Tile trim/wall edge question

I am tiling a small area where the tiles will end on a wall edge, and not go round a corner.
I'm not a fan of the plastic edging strips, and have tiled previously without and prefer the look.
Does the plastic tile edge provide any protection against chips and cracks if the wall gets bashed ie I should use it for the protection? Or shall I just do what I prefer as it's going to happen if it gets bashed anyway?

If it makes a difference the tiles are subway so bevelled edge, but will be laid with no cuts on this edge, and it's a fairly high traffic area

Thanks for any help

I don't like plastic edge strips either. You can get them in chrome/metl which look slightly better but I would just go without. If the tiles are properly fixed and grouted I don't think there will be a problem.
