Cost of a new driveway?

Hi
We are thinking about getting a new drive done as our current one looks awful.
Has anyone had this done recently? Trying to get an idea of costs.
We live in a standard 3 bed semi and the drive just about fits 2 cars on if that helps at all in comparing size & cost.

Thank you!

We paid 7.5k for ours to be widened, dug out etc, tarmac and then resin.

DontMakeMeShushYou · 24/01/2020 12:00

We paid 4.5K but our drive comfortably fits 3 cars so sounds bigger than yours. That was for digging out the previous paved drive, levelling, and block paving.

If you look on line you should be able to get square metre costs for most types of driveway material. There will be a big difference between resin bonded and tarmac

I've looked online and it seems to be about 4-5k but wanted to check whether that sounded about right.

We paid 6k for ours to be done, monoblock. Can fit 3 cars on, it’s a fairly bit area.

I paid 3k ( or maybe 3.5k - cash to save on the VAT they said 😉) for mine. Fits 2 cars. I'm London. I had a mature garden with a fur tree in the middle so they dug it all out

Ours worked out at around £100 p.s.m.; cost us nearly 7k, but room for 4 cars. I was stunned when I realised how much it would cost. It was very necessary, but it is something really boring to spend your money on. Looks neat and tidy though, which it didn't before.

£6k for a nice blocked area. Quite large. Could get 2.5 cars on if parked tidily!

newdriveway · 24/01/2020 13:35

Thank you all!
I was thinking of getting block paving but have seen online that you can now get pattern imprinted concrete which looks ok. It also seems to be cheaper... does anyone have any experience of this? Is block paving better?

Maybe pattern-imprinted concrete is better these days but it looks hideous on the two drives that have it in our road. I would choose block paving if you can afford it.

newdriveway · 24/01/2020 21:02

Thanks @DontMakeMeShushYou . I think I know what you mean, we have some on our road and they are really shiny and fake looking if that makes sense. I think we will save up a bit more to get the block paving!
Thank you all for your help and sorry for making possibly the most boring thread in the world Grin

We were torn between tarmac and the monoblock, mainly because of cost. I’m so glad we went for the latter - it looks fab. (Well, as fab as a drive can look!!). We went for grey, looks great and weathers well.
