Do we expect to hear from buyer?

We’ve recently accepted an offer on our house, the guy used the EA in house mortgage man so I know he’s applied, and our house had the surveyor visit last week. We’ve heard nothing since. I’ve been tied up in my own mortgage paperwork nightmare and as far I know my solicitor hasn’t heard from theirs. Should we have heard anything? Or is it down to solicitors now? We haven’t paid for our onwards searches yet as we are waiting for our offer so maybe buyer is doing the same? I’ve never sold a house before so I don’t know how that works. I’m assuming his mortgage application will take a couple of weeks like ours has and we won’t hear a peep until then?

I don’t think hearing nothing for a week is unusual and it could be down to the lender / mortgage application - lenders seem to vary so much in how long they take to approve applications (I recently got a DIP, offered, was accepted for the mortgage, had valuation completed and received mortgage offer in the space of a week, with Halifax, but a friend going with Santander had the same process take three weeks, including over a week for the valuation report to be returned.)

Also, conveyancers have huge caseloads and you need to be the squeaky wheel making the most noise to make sure you don’t get lost in their to-do list - keep contacting your solicitor.
