Subsidence?

How can you tell pre-survey if a house has suffered subsidence? Long story short we’re in the process of buying an Edwardian end of Terrace house. Mortgage paperwork is still going through so hasn’t reach survey point yet.

We viewed the house again last weekend and suddenly things started to add up that make me wonder if it has previously had subsidence. It’s on a steep hill, facing down, so hopefully could be historic or settlement.

The whole outer skin on the side of the house was replaced in 1994. We don’t know why. There is a very uneven floor in the hall, the stairs feel like they have a very slight lean downhill and in the attic on the outside corner of the house is a large crack. Does this sound like fixed-subsidence?

Obviously we’ll be having a full survey done in due course, but before I throw £600 at it I’d like a rough idea. Is fixed subsidence an issue or only currently moving?
