Carpet Dyeing

Has anyone ever had this done? I’ve got good quality carpet but I don’t like the colour ( was put in by previous owner). It’s light green and I want it to be dark grey. I don’t see the need to buy new if I can get it dyed. If you have was it worth it ? tia

I did it a few years ago I had a peach coloured carpet that got dirty very quickly, what I did was buy packets of dye that goes in a washing machine mixed it up with cold water a huge bucket full of it and got down on my hands and knees and with cloths worked the dye into the carpet , hard work but my carpet came out brown (the colour I had picked) with a peach undertone and took maybe a couple of days to dry completely

With my experience of dying other items, I’d consider:
1- home dyes are not very effective on synthetic fibres.
2- wool will shrink if water is too hot, although I note that @isseywith4vampirecats used cold water.

I’m looking at getting it professionally done as I’m too afraid to try and do it myself!

You'll have to utilize a color wheel to figure out the right dye bath. It's not as easy as you would think to get it right. There's also the question of which kind of carpet you have. If it's wool or nylon it can be dyed but poly carpets can not. There are companies that do carpet dyeing we'll come in and do all of the work for you.
