Hello everyone,

I'm moving from Hampshire to Middlesbrough for my husbands work. We have a 9 month old and 2 cats. I don't know the area at all so would love if anyone can let me know where is best to live to raise a family. Would like to have another baby next year so looking for somewhere we can settle. My husband is happy to drive 20-30 minutes to work. He will be working in the centre of Middlesbrough.

Thank you

Not sure what budget you have and I don't know the area very well to be able to say how long it would take to drive at rush hour but if I were to look at Middlesbrough, I'd consider Marton or Nunthorpe.

I think there may be nice places around Acklam but I've never lived there or visited many houses.

Other places close by: Yarm, Egglescliffe, Kirklevington, Norton,
Slightly further afield: Stokesley and beyond onto the moors but this will increase your travel time, Middleton St George, Carlton, Darlington, Wynyard

Thank you for your help
We will rent at first so looking to spend no more than £700 a month. Husband works nights so traffic shouldn't be to much of a problem.

I think you should post again for more recommendations and put Middlesbrough in the title.

If he works nights, you could move a fair distance away to get there in 30 mins but if you are renting first, it gives you a chance to get a feel for the area and what you would like.

If you want something close to Middlesbrough to do that, I'd suggest you look at nothing north of Hemlington/Stainton/Coulby Newham/Marton unless somebody from Middlesbrough points you to good areas (because I get the impression there are some decidedly dodgy areas).

Yarm is a lovely market town but has horrendous traffic. If renting, maybe look at Egglescliffe/Eaglescliffe which are in walking distance to see whether it's workable for you. They have the benefit of being close to A66 and there are train stations to connect to the East Coast mainline either at Darlington or York. There's a good secondary school and I think its feeder primaries are good too if you are thinking long term.

I get the impression Ingleby Barwick is just lots of new housing estates and I'm not sure if there is much to do without getting in a car. Perfectly ok if you want to use it as a base to suss out the area.

Good luck 🤞

Hi

I have taken your advice and reposted so hopefully can get some more help. You have been very helpful I have googled all the places you have said and I think Eaglescliffe is the best out the lot.

I hope you get some good advice. I think Eaglescliffe and Eaglescliffe have some nice houses and are in walking distance of Yarm High Street. It is lovely but a complete traffic bottleneck. If you rent there, you can see whether it's for you or not.
