Rewire on Monday can't reach electrician! Wwyd?

I've posted before about prepping for our rewire and am in the middle of clearing the house. We've booked accommodation and storage for 2 weeks starting on Sunday as the rewire is scheduled to start Monday.
I messaged the electrician last Monday just to confirm a few last things and he was away on holiday. Said he was back Wednesday. I messaged Thursday and he said he'd ring me later. No word from him until Friday saying his mum went in to hospital with suspected heart attack but she was fine and he'd ring me Monday. It's now the Thursday before the rewire and I've not heard anything despite me messaging each day (respectfully, I don't know the sitch with his mum) I've heard nothing.
Should I start looking for another electrician? We've already paid for the Airbnb, storage and van hire so I'm out almost a grand. I'm freaking out a bit. What would you do?

You could try to line up another electrician but in your timescale you will do well to find one available.

However, if you do find one you could send your original chap an ultimatum saying you have got someone else lined up and if he does not respond by xxxpm on yyy day you will have to assume that his family crises means that he wont be able to do it.

Do give him chance to come back though and try to keep it friendly as you may find that he is going to turn up anyway.

Anyone know a good electrician in Edinburgh or Borders?

So I mobilised myself and contacted 6 sparks from checkatrade. 4 got back to me immediately and said they could do it so I arranged for them to visit this week. The original guy rang me at 8pm to say he'll be here. Now I have to tell all these guys not to bother. What a palaver but I'm so relieved!
