Floor tiling quote

Just had a quote from a local tradesman come through for tiling a c 7' x 8' hallway in natural stone: £1200 labour, £316 materials. Also for the same tiling in a dining room c 24' x 12' ; £4496. This would include levelling/screed as the floor is just rough chipboard. Seems really extortionate to me but maybe I am just out of touch, any thoughts? Thank you.

Seems outrageous to me
Most tiles charge a day rate of circa 200 around here
Or 40-50/m2 depending on type of tile
I assume the quote will include putting marine ply down then leveling with screed... but even in the bigger room that would only take a day

Redhound · 06/01/2020 14:24

Thank you that is helpful!

That does seem a lot, but a couple of other estimates should help gauge whether it is, or not.

We paid £1200 inc all materials needed (grout, screed to level the floor etc) & that was for a room sized 21'5" x 8'4". The only thing we supplied was the tiles.

HouseOfCrayCray · 06/01/2020 14:37

And btw that was the most expensive quote out of quite a few we got, but we went with our tiler as he had brilliant feedback & was well established.

Oop North.
Paid £4k for large kitchen diner, hallway, bathroom and living room including all mats.

TheQueef · 06/01/2020 14:41

That included pantry and over counter wall tiling.

Dinosauraddict · 06/01/2020 17:17

I'm with @Alexalee in that around here tilers charge £40-50 per square metre for labour (I'm SE but not London).

GreenTulips · 06/01/2020 17:21

Ours was £40 sq mt and included all materials apart from the tiles themselves

Muddyinthesticks · 07/01/2020 05:12

We are currently going through a major refurb and pay £200 per day labour only for a tiler (SE).

Thank you for all your help, I will definitely get some more quotes and probably end up with some offcut vinyl!
