When will new houses come to market?

The market has been dead for a couple of months where I am. How long do I have to wait before more houses appear?

In my opinion, sellers will wait until February or March to get some Brexit certainty.

But be prepared for a sudden rush as well. Since the GE some investments have risen significantly due to capital flowing into the U.K. and it will feed into housing.

After Brexit is done, I think a lot of people are sitting tight at the moment.

I reckon mid January actually. We know where we're going Brexit wise. People still need to move.

What has been coming on has either moved quickly, or stagnated.

I actually noticed a few more coming up (and selling too) around here in the last few weeks (post election), which surprised me. Might just be a blip

I think there will be more coming on once people get back to work in January. Personally I don't understand this. If you want to move, then move. Last year we successfully moved, as did a good friend of our daughters', and two other members of our family. One bought a new build, one a probate sale, one a fairly new but previously owned house and ours was a lovely four bed about twenty years old but with everything 'done'. So all happily settled in and getting on with our lives. Sure, there wasn't much on the market once we were seriously looking, having got our buyer, but you only need one!!!!! Actually I think the scarcity factor of property on the market in our previous village helped us sell our previous niche 17th century property. We honestly thought we'd have difficulty, but certainly not the case. There must be a lot of pent-up demand from last year, however - if people were genuinely worried about the effects of Brexit. It will be interesting to see what happens with the property market this year.

We would buy today if there was anything suitable but there isn’t even one suitable house!

My phone has been pinging with Rightmove alerts since Boxing Day. Seems to be plenty coming on the market in my part of West Mids

We're planning to sell our flat and buy a house towards the end of Jan/middle of Feb. Not waiting for Brexit, we've been planning for a while so Brexit is coincidental.

PleaseNoFortnite · 30/12/2019 15:55

We've also seen a few more properties coming on in the last week or so (London)

sall74 · 30/12/2019 17:42

When I last sold in 2015 there were 15 other properties for sale in my village at the time and everyone was saying then that there was very little coming on to the market due to people holding off because of the upcoming 2015 election and once that was out of the way the market would ''get back to normal''

I've just looked on Rightmove now at the same village and there are currently 2 properties for sale!!

MarieG10 · 30/12/2019 18:06

@sall74 . For some reason Rightmove does not appear to list many of the properties around us that are for sale. Not sure why but definitely isn't a reliable guide

littlecontis · 30/12/2019 18:28

Was hoping some more listings to come up after Christmas but nothing suitable. Looking at Surrey!
