The first photo you can see the holes from the roadside
The second photo is smaller homes , also noticeable from road
The third is in the recess at bottom of shutter - you can’t see it from the room , but it looks shoddy ?

No, I wouldn't be happy, the screws should be sunk, filled and painted over to match.

Charliescar · 29/12/2019 14:40

No , I am not happy ! I think they have been poorly installed. Wondering if anyone else has had problems with shutters ?

OP posts:
TheFaerieQueene · 29/12/2019 14:43

They are not good at all. I have shutters and none of those problems. I would be asking for them to be replaced.

Charliescar · 29/12/2019 15:00

@TheFaerieQueen I am glad a fellow shutter owner agrees they are bad . There are other problems too - one shutter has to be forced shut , as it bangs against the bottom of the frame

Aquamarine1029 · 29/12/2019 15:03

Wow, that is bad. A total shit job. I would be raising all kinds of hell.

TheFaerieQueene · 29/12/2019 15:04

That’s appalling! Give them hell!

allthesharks · 29/12/2019 15:09

They're finished very poorly. The holes in the first image aren't even level. Not that that would make it look better, but it shows how little care has been taken.

Charliescar · 29/12/2019 15:26

He is demanding the rest of his balance 😳

OP posts:
Bloomburger · 29/12/2019 15:36

We had this. We had to replace we snow in the end as they had been drilled into window and they'd filled gaps with mastic. It was hilarious how bad it was.

Tell him he can have his balance when he has finished the job. (Not in Essex are you?)

allthesharks · 29/12/2019 15:38

I would not be paying anything further until he's repaired these issues, which I think will mean starting again. Have you read any reviews of his work? Is this a one off do you think?

In the second photo, have those holes been made from screws pushing through from the other side?

Charliescar · 29/12/2019 15:42

@allthesharks yes the holes are from screws going through . It is a thin piece of wood , but still , he knew the shutters would be visible from outside !
He has done a few people’s shutters on our road , so presumed all ok . His reviews were good too . He is on Checkatrade . He is a franchise

They look terrible OP, I haven’t got shutters but a cottage we rented last summer had them and they looked nothing like that. Definitely don’t pay the balance.

allthesharks · 29/12/2019 15:44

Have you told him you're not happy with them?

Charliescar · 29/12/2019 15:44

@Bloomburger no not in Essex . It’s a joke isn’t it . They are so bloody expensive, DH annoyed with the stress of it all . He didn’t want them !

OP posts:
Charliescar · 29/12/2019 15:48

@allthesharks yes , I have told him . He has also positioned 4 of them in the wrong position! They were supposed to be in the recess , he has put them flush with the wall.
He is now demanding balance , saying the invoice stated it was due 7 days after either on delivery of the shutters to him or 7 days after installation. He had the shutters delivered to him on the 18th , they were installed on the 20th. He is saying that I paid the deposit , it stated when the balance should be paid and is demanding payment or he won’t come back and fix them

Roselilly36 · 29/12/2019 15:51

Have you complained to the Franchisor?

Charliescar · 29/12/2019 16:08

@Roselilly36 do you mean the man who fitted my shutters ? He owns the franchise !

OP posts:
Roselilly36 · 29/12/2019 16:22

He will be operating his Franchise within your area, but he will be doing so under a franchise agreement with the Franchisor (Head Office)

I only know this because I had a problem with a similar product (window blinds) provided by a franchised operator.

Charliescar · 29/12/2019 16:23

@Roselilly36 do you think it would be worth me contacting the head office ?

OP posts:
moreturkeyforme · 29/12/2019 16:26

We have shutters. That is shoddy work.

tiredsleepysleep · 29/12/2019 16:26

Definitely contact head office, he's trading on their brand and name, they won't be happy he's doing a shit job under their brand name.

allthesharks · 29/12/2019 16:30

I agree - contact head office. If you can do it by email, rather than an online form, send them the photos. I'd ask if they can get someone else to repair/redo them for you.

PegasusReturns · 29/12/2019 16:33

Contact head office

Charliescar · 29/12/2019 16:54

Do you think it would be best to try and get him to rectify it first before I contact the head office ?
One concern I have is he will just reposition the shutters further into the recess , as was in the original spec , and not make it good where he removes the shutters from .

OP posts:
Roselilly36 · 29/12/2019 17:41

I would give him 14 days to put the work right, if not done by that time contact head office, whatever you do, don’t pay the balance.
