Stay or Move?

Looking for opinions on what we should do in our situation. We have lived in our current home for five years, it is a two bed mid terrace, has 25 steps up to the front door, there is a lane at the bottom of the garden which takes us out to the street behind which has two steps in it. We have a DD age 5 and DS, 9. They are sharing the big bedroom and the plan was to eventually do a loft conversion to get an extra bedroom, which is a common practice in the area we live.

I am due to receive an inheritance in the coming year and we may be in a position to move house within the area. While I like our house, I do not love it and a coupole of things are starting to annoy me, such as the steps and the parking. We are on-street parking, some houses in the street have driveways but not everyone uses their driveway and there are some inconsiderate parking practices going on eg came home tonight to find a neighbour had parked their car right in the middle of a space big enough for two cars.

If we were to move, it may well be another mid terrace however we could afford one with the loft already done, a driveway and level access into the house. As I am unsure exactly how much my in inheritance will be, there is a chance also that we could afford a semi-detached or something with an extension - the estate is complicated and involves a lot of collectible assets which still need to be sold off.

What would you do if you were in my situation? Thanks for reading and Merry Xmas!

I’ve been considering this myself. And thinking ‘oh I’ll just move’ as it sounds so much easier. But then I work out how much stamp duty I would
have to pay and I think I’m better off staying.

I'd move and find somewhere without all the steps and with better parking.

when you know how much you have look at what that will buy you in your area and how much it will cost you to move and do a pros and cons list then when you have a definite budget, but I wouldn't want to live in a house with 25 steps going to the front door but then im old

I’d move especially if you can get a semi and a bit of room to swing a cat.

JoJo I think if the cat knew this he would definitely want us to stay put!! Grin

I'd move because the parking is unlikely to get any better, and I wouldn't fancy all these steps ever, and certainly not in icy or snowy weather.

(And if you're in the cludgie you might get some wintry weather, I'm assuming!)
