Please help me figure out how to work my heating, I'm bloody freezing!

We moved in to a new home at the end of October, and are totally stumped about why we can't get our heating to work properly!

It does work, just not when we need it to!

When it is set on timer it goes on and off at random points, not when we have set it. The time on the panel is correct.

Even when we turn it to on, sometimes it turns on immediately, sometimes it turns on after about an hour and sometimes it is on but then goes off again!

I have searched the house and can't find a thermostat anywhere but there are some 'owl intuition' boxes in the house (which we can't use as we don't have the box that connects to the router) however I believe they are just to monitor use like a smart meter not a control like hive.

Our last house we just pressed a switch on the boiler and hey presto! I realise I might need to call someone (not sure even who to be honest) but I am worried it might be something really simple.

Any ideas property gurus?

I'd get a good central heating engineer round to service the boiler and get him to show you how it works.

Can you add a picture of the boiler and controls?

Muddlingalongalone · 19/12/2019 21:20

Without being patronising OP have you put the model into YouTube to see if there are instructions?
That's what I had to do when I moved in here. i'm also freezing when I work from home coz I don't know how to change it

I don't have any technical knowledge but it could have a preset temperature set on the boiler so that it comes on every time it drops below the selected temperature then switches off when it reaches an upper temperature. We had a set up like this once and until we worked it out it appeared to have a life of its own.

Our control box allows us to set minimum and maximum temperatures for different times. So when the heating is 'off' it will come on if the temp drops below a certain temp.
I second googling the control box /boiler. I have to do it every damn time I want to alter the timer 🤣

Sorry, I tried to reply and post photo's twice on the app and it apparently didn't work either time!

have been doing some digging and I think it might have something to do with the owl box thing. It seems that is is controlling the electricity to the boiler, but the other day the light on the boiler was off but the radiators were hot. I guess it must have just gone off. How it is controlling it without having the bit in the router I have no idea though!

There aren't really any controls on the boiler other than a temperature dial, which is turned up to full.

I have managed to get it on/it has finally come on tonight thankfully.

Will definitely have to call someone out I think, just don;t think it will be possible before Christmas unfortunately. We have a 1 year old and i worry about him being so cold at night.
