Viewings over Christmas

We've been on the market a while now, and I'd quite like to 'shut up shop' for the next couple of weeks, as I can't be dealing with the tidying and showing people around over this period. Partly as we have so much stuff lying around (more than usual), but mainly because I just want a break.

Does anyone know if people tend to want to view over this period? I'm tempted to come off RightMove, or just let the agent know that we're not doing viewings until Jan. Is this a bad move? Just wondering what others do around this time.

I've been told in between Xmas and NY when people are off work are quite busy times for house searching but I don't know how true that is! I would feel the same as you though.

The estate agents I run will be closed from Friday 20th December until at least Jan 2nd.

Never found this period of the year to be remotely busy, despite claims from Rightmove each year that Boxing Day is their busiest day, something I find very difficult to believe, but I doubt they're making it up.

Right move you can search from the depths of turkey-induced coma on the couch. And can be part of “NY resolutions coming, time to get dreaming again”! 🤣

Going to an actual agent or viewing a house takes energy and be part of an active search - which when you are distracted by family and festivities, really does go on the back burner for a good few days at least.

Thanks all! Perhaps people are browsing on RM but won't actually be viewing until Jan. Fingers crossed.

I was an EA and no I put people off. No one has time/has family round and doesn't want to to keep a house spotless. We didn't get many requests.

Dazedandconfused10 · 18/12/2019 20:38

Don't come of rightmove. Just say viewings aren't possible. If someone wants the house they will wait.

Thanks @dazed, a good plan Smile

There is no benefit to coming off - it won't show as newly added as it needs to be off the market for 12 weeks to show as a 'new' property so honestly keep online so people can see and just do viewings when they suit you. Depending on your agent (independent vs. Big corp) independent won't want to, corps might because of targets but out your foot down. Good luck with your sale!
