Venetian blinds - wood or aluminium?

I live in a 1930s semi. I want some white venetian blinds, probably 50mm slats, for the bay window in our lounge and the window in the adjacent room, which is a home office (converted from a garage, so relatively modern).

In our previous house we had alumininum venetians, chosen because it was a dark room and I wanted to maximise the light coming in. They were lovely, so I was planning to do the same again, but I've got a nagging feeling that wooden blinds are more stylish, yes? I've searched all the venetian blind threads here on Mumsnet and they all seem to be about wooden blinds. Many houses around here have wooden shutters - I've rejected that idea for various reasons but perhaps the wooden venetians will be the best alternative!

Thoughts?

Also interested in opinions on 35mm versus 50mm slats. I was planning to go for the wider ones, again to maximise light, but I've just noticed that John Lewis only do 35mm which makes me think that size must be more popular for some reason.

I had an aluminium blind in a previous house. I found it was hard to dust without bending and squashing the slats. It also looked a bit naff.

Width and style is subjective. I like the soft white, 25mm slats with string, not ribbon. I now have these in every room.

A pull string to tilt the slats is better than a twisty stick.

Try 247 blinds eco wild range, the look like wood but aren't, they look fabulous

I have white wood all over except aluminium in one back bedroom.
The wood ones are so much easier to clean.

I've also a bay window in my front room, opted for white wooden Venetian throughout the house- I also wanted to maximise the light, it works really well, plus the white isnt 'stand out' or 'shiney' (I'd think aluminium would be), but seems to brighten from outside and also absorb a little of the colours from different rooms.

They do need cleaning often, but those three prong spongy things (from Amazon mine) work well, plus wood, so not bendy- I'd imagine aluminium would be a nightmare!

Sorry, mine also 50mm (salesman showed me the difference and much better IMO)

I have the 50mm wooden ones downstairs and aluminium upstairs.Wish I'd gone for all wood as they are much, much easier to clean.

We have 50 mm in our bays. Blinds2go do faux wood, which are lighter to open and shut.
We’ve had them for 10 years and are as new.
