Moving Thursday, still not exchanged?

We're in a very small chain of 3 including us and we're moving to a new build on Thursday. Removals booked, kids ready to start new schools as it's a 70 mile move and we've still not exchanged 😱
It was supposed to be yesterday but some required signature wasn't done till too late and now the solicitor for the first couple in the chain is saying it'll be tomorrow morning due to the deposit not being cleared yet.
Has anyone else exchanged the day before they completed as I've certainly not but all solicitors are saying it'll be done etc and it's no problem.
I'm a nervous wreck; is this doable?

I think it is doable, but I would stress to your solicitor that you must complete on time... could you ask them to check with the rest of the chain that they’ve got the funds already being transferred etc?? Sorry I don’t know more, I understand as I would be anxious too!

Tittie · 10/12/2019 15:24

We did...we were supposed to complete on the same day which didn't happen in the end as the vendors and their solicitor took so long to get their act together Angry I was eternally thankful that we were the end of the tiny chain and didn't have a van full of stuff waiting to be moved in.
It's certainly doable, you could in theory do all it on the same day. We found it quite stressful, and we had to keep pushing and pushing to ensure it all went through on time.
I'd definitely speak with your solicitor and make sure everything else is all lined up with all other parties. Good luck!

We exchanged and completed within 24 hours so definitely doable... Very very stressful though. Hope it all works out for you.

@Magpiefeather @Tittie @AlmaMartyr
Thank you all, I'm stressed to high heaven but to know others have within 1-2 days makes me feel a bit better.
All 3 solicitors have said funds are ready and it will be done in the morning with completion on Thursday but not sure my nerves can take much more. I've moved quite a few times but never had this endless stress before.

That's a nail biter isn't it? Hopefully it will get sorted but you are in a very high risk situation

Farontothemaddingcrowd · 10/12/2019 17:53

We exchanged the day before completion

thereinmadnesslies · 10/12/2019 17:53

We did that a year ago - exchanges on the weds, completed on the thurs. It’s really stressful though. Hope it works out for you

MotherTime3 · 10/12/2019 18:00

I think ours was 3 days, but a family member exchanged and completed the same day. Theirs was quite a long chain too. Good luck op, it’s a stressful time

grandmasterstitch · 10/12/2019 18:24

We exchanged at 10am and completed at 1.30. It was incredibly stressful but it's definitely doable

Samsmam2 · 10/12/2019 19:13

We were in a chain of eight, completion had been tentatively agreed for two weeks hence. Then some mad cow in the chain decided that if she wasn’t moved “by Friday” she was pulling out. So we all had to find removals firms that could fit us in last minute - our estate agent was ringing round too.

Exchange was done Friday morning as we were loading the lorry, we completed soon after.

Moving home is so stressful - you come across the most awful people at their worst.

Good luck with the move OP.

princesconsuelabananahammock · 10/12/2019 20:08

Thank you so much to all of you. You won't believe how much better that has made me feel as I'm anxious to high.
We've been told exchange should be by lunch at latest tomorrow so no sleep tonight no doubt but fingers crossed it won't be a whole days wait.
Just finished all the last boxes as me and youngest son are at a hotel tomorrow to get him out of the way. I'll be needing the whole bottle of bubbly to myself that we've got for the move day at this rate 😂🤞🏼

Ds exchanged and completed same day. We didn’t even know he had completed until the EA called and said he could get his keys.

GoingToInfinity · 11/12/2019 14:18

Hope you've had some good news today OP?

We're meant to be moving on Tuesday, and we've still not exchanged. Was meant to happen on Monday, then yesterday and now today but we've still not heard anything apart from a a stressed EA who can't get hold of the people we're buying from 😬

DorothyHarris · 11/12/2019 14:32

We exchanged and completed on the same day, never again 🙊 hope it goes well...

Singlenotsingle · 11/12/2019 14:35

Last time I sold a property we exchanged and completed on the same day.

hartof · 11/12/2019 14:36

We exchanged and completed the same day when we moved from our old house into a new build as our deposit was in our house so had to wait for it to go through all together. It was fine! Handed old keys over at 11.30, had new ones by 1.30

princesconsuelabananahammock · 14/12/2019 19:44

Sorry for late reply but we finally exchanged at 3pm on Wednesday and completed exactly 24 hours later. Most stressful week of my life but it's all turned out well in the end Smile

So glad to hear that. I'm really hoping I can tell a similar tale this week. We're meant to be completing on Tuesday but we still haven't exchanged. Every single day last week we're meant to exchange but for one reason or another it didn't happen.
Everything should be in place for exchange first thing on Monday, but then it should've been every day last week too. The packers are arriving at 8:30am on Monday and we have until 12pm to let them know if we're definitely moving on the Tuesday before they start loading stuff on to the lorry. I am bricking it.
