Hi. I had a friend who lived in Belper before but we lost contact already ever since she moved to Vietnam a few years ago. She told me before that Belper is a very good place to live in with it's proximity to Peak District. Now I'm thinking of buying my first property there and maybe bring my family to stay there later. Can anyone tell me if it's a good place to live in? I would like to rent out the property first and my target is for family or young professionals who may want to start their family root there. So which part of Belper should I look for, or even more precise, which streets are best? Please fill me in as many info as possible. Thank you. :)

A friend of mine retired to Belper a few years ago. As far as I know he loves it. I've visited a couple of times and it does seem quite nice.

There's a large chocolate factory on the outskirts of belper, so I'd imagine it smells nice

Anybody from Belper who can give me some guidelines please?

Belper is lovely, I don't live far away. It can be a nightmare in winter, very steep roads which you cannot get up or down in the snow. They have sons decent shops. Derby city centre just fine the road with the Royal Derby Hospital. What else do you need to know?

Bebee72 · 06/12/2019 03:13

Thanks dalmatianmad. Is the place where you live better than Belper? Is it in a good school catchment area?

Belper is more of a town than the village I live in.
You probably need to have a wander around to make your mind up. I cant advise on Individual schools or roads.
It's a lovely place. Matlock, heage and amber gate are all very beautiful and picturesque too

@Bebee72 I'm in a similar boat as you, looking to purchase a house in Belper which will be our family home. We've put an offer in which we've had accepted but I'm getting cold feet after seeing a few posts about anti-social behaviour... I currently live in Mackworth off Derby city centre so I'm telling myself it can't possibly be worse 😂

I’ve got friends in Belper, Milford and Darley Dale and it seems lovely around there. I regularly take my son to an arts centre in Belper and I’ve never witnessed any issues or felt unsafe etc

we looked at belper. even looked at houses and visited. what put us off the place was a serious lack of parking, very steep roads. most houses didnt have the ability for us to park our 2 cars.

apart from that, seemed really lovely!

myname I'd say Belper has less of the anti-social behavious issues than most places of a similar size (or bigger)! You can't avoid it altogether anywhere.

mynameisntlouise · 08/01/2020 05:29

@CatAndHisKit yeah I think I knew that really, I suppose social media gives people a forum to moan about minor negatives so easily. It's like hotel/restaurant reviews, people can't wait to get online to complain!

thers a really good fb page for belper so you can ask lots of questions. I can`t remember its name though. very welcoming bunch!
