Wood effect bathroom floor advice please

I’ve decided on a wood effect bathroom floor, possible laid in a herringbone way. What would anyone advise in terms of sourcing quality products and what sort of trade would lay it? A tiler?

Depends on the type of floor that you will lay on to. If it's upstairs then it's most likely to be a timber floor on joists?

If so, although you can over ply the floor (and lay something like HardiBacker board under the tiles or use other proprietary methods), I personally don't like ceramic tiles over timber. There's often flex in the joists and the grouting can crack, especially large floors.

The alternative is vinyl tiles like Karndean. These are great and probably not going to cost you much more when you compare the preparation expense of ceramic. Just get some prices from a few fitters.

The cheapest option is laminate, but I would avoid these in wet areas.

Hope that helps.

wood tiles look lovely but may need to consider underfloor heating. Would karndean not be slippery when wet?

Thanks for replies, it’s a 30s semi so small bathroom with wooden floorboards but currently has black and white tiles on.
Ideally I’d like real wood but I know that’s a silly idea so I want a high quality waterproof substitute. If I go for the tiles where would be a good place to look? would it just need a tiler to sort it all? Would Karndean be a different fitter?

Porcelnosa do some nice ones but so do B&Q and yes get a good tiler. Karndean have accredited fitters.

Don't worry, Karndean isn't slippery when wet, the ranges they have are slip rated.
