Extending a porch

We want to remove and rebuild our porch. Currently it is just a doors width and depth, so effectively a box before you step into the lounge. We want to widen it so we have space for coats/shoes.

Looking at the local planning website, it seems we don't need planning permission for this. So what would be our next step? Do i draw a plan of what i want myself and call some builders?

It's always best to have something drawn or sketched out so a proper specification can be made, eg what roof tiles, glazing etc. Always get three quotes and see what each builder says will be required.

Don't forget that technically you should have an external quality door between the main house and the porch, otherwise it's an extension and subject to building regs.
