Wall tiling - costs

In the process of having a new kitchen installed and need to sort a tiler.

3 walls to tile from worktop (well upstand) to underneath wall cupboards.
Tiles 300 x 100.
Top tile will need cutting as heights not quite right for number of tiles stated.
Cambridge area.

  • straight run: 1350 (x 4 tiles high) + 900 (x 10 tiles high - above cooker) + 1200 (x 4 tiles high) + 2 x worktop return on each end of 600 (x 4 tiles high).
2 double sockets, 1 cooker switch & socket and 1 aerial socket to cut round.
  • corner run: 1900 (x 4 tiles high) + 1620 (x 4 tiles high).
3 double sockets & 1 light switch to cut round.
  • straight run, with a two small boxed in bits round pipes, plus window in the middle with a small area to each side before wall cabinets. 2700 (x 3 tiles high).
2 double sockets to cut round.

I've got a couple of people coming round to quote but have no idea as to approximate pricing. Any ideas?

Ask them how many days it will take them then go from there. For example two days at, say, £200 a day would be on the high side.

Thanks.

What's a day though, some might work 8 hours solid, others might do 9.30 - 3.30 with an hour break.
So how many days it should take is subjective.

I had someone (recommended) round last night. He said he works with his brother, 1 cuts and 1 tiles so get through it quicker.
He said it would be around 1 day per section for the 2 of them at £110 each per day. So £660 - which seems massively high for me.
I would have thought it would be a couple of days work, but I've never had tiling done so haven't a clue. ExH did it about 17 years ago and I only remember it taking him a couple of days, and he's not a tiler.

I will obviously get someone else round for a comparison
