Painted unit problems!

Sorry my title might not accurately describe my problem!

We had two units fitted & installed into alcoves. They were primarily MDF, were painted professionally however I changed my mind about the colour so repainted them. I used a satinwood paint however I don't think I mixed it thoroughly enough as one unit looks high gloss & the other matt!! We will repaint them again however I'm wondering if we need to sand them down a bit beforehand? Or if we can just crack on & paint with it properly mixed?

Any opinions appreciated!

You'll need to sand the units, unless you use something like this

you can get a mixer that fits in an electric drill (preferably a small, light one). It has a plastic propellor on the end of a rod

Do it in the garden, because one day you will drop it, or absent-mindedly lift it out of the paint when still spinning.

There is also a much bigger, steel, thing called a paddle. I don't recommend you start with that.

If you use a plastic cook's spatula (you have to scrape the solids off the bottom of the tub) it can take 5-10 minutes thorough hand stirring.

Clean it before it dries.
