Insects and worms getting in through my front door !

We are in a end of terrace townhouse (rented) at the end of a close. When we moved I found small insects, spiders sometimes in the hallway. I am now finding stick worms and this morning i found a huge earthworm on the INSIDE of my main door.

What can I do about this? How can I stop them coming in (without chemicals if possible)?

What's directly outside? Are there all living in a damp crack? Is the crack in the door they are sitting in damp?

Directly in front of my door is a flowerbed with evergreen shrubs.

I use a little automatic wash powder in a thin line next to door as a barrier (it stops ants)
