Anyone know Bristol

DD and her partner have both been offered jobs and are going to start looking at flats to rent.
It's a city not really known the them. They've earmarked a couple of days to go and look but could anyone suggest some areas for young professionals within easy reach of the city centre?

My first thoughts are Southville/Bedminster, Totterdown, Redland, Clifton, Bishopston, Kingsdown.
Further out from these would probably be cheaper and not within a walking distance of the central parts of Bristol but involve a bus journey.

Where are their jobs and roughly what is their budget? How long a commute are they willing to do, and do they want to walk/bus/cycle/drive (not recommended in most of central Bristol unless employer provides parking)?

Where their jobs are is crucial. It’s a bugger to get across town.

Thanks for the replies.
Jobs are with half a mile of Temple Meads and budget is under £1100 a month. Walking to walk would be ideal.
No parking at work, parking at flat would be a bonus but not a deal breaker.

Just make sure they don’t have s diesel car with the news today!

Clifton is lovely. It’s the student area and there are loads of flats. Redland similar. Clifton has everything a younger couple could want. I would start looking though, because the students will be!

The ideal locations are Clifton and surrounding (Redland etc).

Lots of young professionals in Southville, Totterdown.

These are all likely walking distance to the centre, under an hour say (obviously depends on where in town the office is as can take 30 mins to walk from main shopping centre to other side of centre).

Other areas are anywhere off Gloucester Road (Bishopston) or St George. Both are slightly further out but ok good vis routes.

Feel free to message me if any specific questions 😊

Thank you, they're taking your advice and are looking at Clifton, Redlands and also some new developments that seem to be near the docks. Quite a few within budget which is a pleasant surprise.

Clifton and Redland aren't walking distance to Temple Meads but they are on a local train line that goes there, and there are lots of buses. Renting in the Harbourside area would also make sense for a young, child-free couple - lots going on, and everything you need is within walking distance, though some parts can get noisy at weekends or when there are major events going on.

I used to work near temple meads and lived in Clifton to start with, then moved to Gloucester Roaf which is lovely if you're young and like going out lots- both are walkable though Glos Rd is a longer walk- I liked it though- helped me to wake up in the morning! Clifton would definitely be my first choice tho if I were moving back and could afford to live there

Thank you, this thread has been really useful.
Clifton ticks the boxes but apparently the ones they can afford are on the far side.
They're both doing a long commute at the moment which is expensive and tiring so would really like to be able to work to work.
They have appointments to look at flats in the harbour and Gloucester Road.
