Ikea delivery - website says item is available to deliver but at order stage, can't get message that it is not

Item is in stock at local Ikea and indicator is green for 'Available for delivery'. However, when I try to order and enter my postcode, I get a message saying item is not available for delivery.

Does anyone know if this is common - is it to do with their stock level for the item? It is showing as 3 available (it's a chest of drawers). I am guessing because there are only 3 available they may not take the order as by the time they go to pick it, it could be gone?

I've tried calling them, but no avail. I don't have car or know anyone with a car so delivery is only option. I only live about 3 miles away.

Argh.

Title should be:

I was told that deliveries were made from a warehouse not the store so the stock levels would be different.

Thanks. It's really frustrating. The levels seem to be low at all stores, so maybe they don't have even have them centrally.

I've had this a couple of times. Last time I just waited a few weeks and tried again and it was all available.

I tested with another chest of drawers with higher stock levels and that was enabled for delivery. So must be to do with when the stock falls below a certain treshold. Hope it comes back in - it's exactly what I was looking for.

It's infuriating. I give up with IKEA. I bought £700 of furniture from them a few weeks ago and it was all delivered to my postcode no problem, presumably sent out from some distribution warehouse. Just trying to order some other furniture now, spent ages choosing it and trawling through all the options and double checking the measurements, and they won't deliver to my postcode now. I've had this before with them. I don't ever have this nonsense with any other retailer. It's sitting in their distribution warehouse. It's another £200 order and if it works in the space I would order more. Just send it out. Can they seriously not get the logistics sorted to make their inventory available to customers? Is it a ploy to get customers in-store to eat some nasty meatballs? I don't physically have time to do a 56-mile round trip to what the website says is my "local" branch. And I suspect I might get there and find it's not actually in stock anyway. Total waste of my time. No more IKEA for me.

@Whatever4321 I think you’ve commented on an old zombie thread here, but just to say this happened to me last year too.

The IKEA product page shows the item in stock for my postcode, but when I move to checkout it suddenly says it’s not available for delivery.

I messaged them about this and they didn’t give a shit. They said that’s just how their website works! So you could be planning something based on the product page that says it’s in stock for your postcode, except that’s totally wrong and it’s not available for delivery…. I planned a whole room around their limited edition blue Billy bookcases, only to discover when I tried to pay that they wouldn’t deliver to my postcode. And as it was limited edition and discontinued, no more stock was arriving. They would however deliver to their drop off spot which was only 3 miles away! But that was no good to me as I have a tiny Corsa and can’t fit two huge bookcases in the car 🤦🏻‍♀️

They are exhausting to deal with - I try not to buy from them now if I can avoid it as they don’t give a toss about wrong info on their website.

Exhausting. They have it available to ship to my postcode in a different colour to the one I wanted. But when I go to add it to the cart it just comes up with an error message that says "add to cart failed" or something. Such a waste of people's time.
