Wood Pellet Boiler

We’re in the process of considering a new wood pellet boiler vs new oil boiler. Obvs like the idea of the green route and know the initial layout cost is mega bucks but government incentives help. We’re concern about maintenance, availability of wood etc etc. We’re in a 1650s Grade 2 Listed farmhouse so prone to the cold. Does anyone have any recent experience of these ? I’ve only seen posts from 2010/13. Thanks all 🌿🌿🌿🌿

unless you grow and chop your own wood a wood burning stove/boiler alone is not a green choice.

have you looked into insulation (secondary insulating from inside) and double glazing (there are listed building suitable options)?

yes, like hell is a pellet boiler a green choice. That's why there are incentives, it is a greenwash scam. A new oil boiler vs the usual 30 year old jobs will use considerably less fuel, but because it is fossil fuel there's no incentive. So full VAT to pay too. No wonder people don't replace them.

go for oil with a logburner as backup IF you have space for big bags of wood or can grow your own and dry it for two years.

also the obvious - thick lined curtains with pelmets, draught excluders, improved windows and so on.
