Kitchen appliances - Neff vs AEG

foxatthewindow · 02/11/2019 22:02

We are just about to order the kitchen for our house and I’m stuck on Neff vs AEG. We had Neff in the old house, the slide and hide was great, and I liked the ovens, but the controls were sometimes slow. I’d be perfectly happy with them again, but AEG seem more popular at the moment. I’m not sure why, but the price difference is minimal.

Anybody have any recommendations?

I can’t compare but I bought an AEG oven (and replaced a faulty Hisense dishwasher with an AEG one) and I’m impressed.

MyNameIsJane · 02/11/2019 22:30

I would also say Hotpoint and Hisense were extremely poor with their customer service with their faulty items. So definitely don’t order those brands.

BubblesBuddy · 02/11/2019 22:37

AEG are not the high quality they used to be. Having said that, I don’t think Neff are either. So nothing to choose between them in my opinion. I quite like my Neff built in microwave/grill/oven but it’s fairly flimsy.

Buy appliances that have features you will actually use. I like to see how heavy and well made ovens are! Are they nice solid doors and sturdy shelves? Or does it feel flimsy with cheap knobs.

I don’t get why sliding the door away is great unless the oven is low level. I think there are more important features if I was buying. I would prefer a reliable self clean system!

I have an AEG induction hob in a holiday home as well as a single oven and dishwasher. They have been there for 10 years and no problems. I wouldn’t expect there to be though!

We've just had a new kitchen and all the appliances are AEG. I think the dishwasher isn't as good as my old Bosch one and it and the ovens are really complicated to use- in fact I can't figure out the microwave/ combi oven at all. The instructions are incomprehensible. Also, the controls and buttons are a bit cheap and flimsy. I like the induction hob, but it's very noisy - top tip, buy expensive pans because if you buy cheap ones, as I did, the noise is extremely annoying.

foxatthewindow · 03/11/2019 06:47

Interesting. It seems that there isn’t much in it. @JosephineDeBeauharnaiswe are good for pans as we had induction in our old house but they are quite noisy in general. I’m not sure if that’s pan quality or pan size relative to the zone. Small pans seem to be noisier. I can recommend Le Creuset in general as being good, both the cast iron and the anodised non stick, but one of my favourites is a Denby frying pan. You have to be careful with induction and non stick not to just whack it up to high with nothing in as that destroys the non stick surface (voice of bitter experience).

Anyone have a warming drawer?

AEG was a venerable German electrical and engineering company, but it collapsed years ago and the bits closed down or sold off.

Electrolux bought the rights to the AEG brand name on domestic appliances, so one branded AEG is made by Electrolux. Other brand names they own include Tricity Bendix, Zanussi, Frigidaire, Westinghouse in Australia, and about fifty others.

PigletJohn · 03/11/2019 10:30

And Neff is a name owned by BSH, the appliance company jointly owned by Bosch and Siemens.

foxatthewindow · 03/11/2019 13:06

Ahh thanks @PigletJohn - think I’ll probably just stick with Neff then. We had no problems with the old ones.

I've just had an AEG induction hob installed in our new kitchen - there's no noise at all! Why would an induction hob make a noise?

Baxdream · 03/11/2019 13:16

I have neff and love them. It has a clean option and warming option. The buttons work fine.

I can't comment on AEG though

JosephineDeBeauharnais · 03/11/2019 19:20

BiWi the noise is the sound of the magnets. It's worse with some pans than others. As fox says, there's no noise with the Le Cruset pans, and they are the heaviest, whereas the cheaper pans are lighter so I guess more susceptible to the vibrations.

Bonkersblond · 03/11/2019 19:28

Our induction makes a noise I’ve noticed when using cheap pans, didn’t know it was the magnets! When I use the pans(Schulte-Ufer) which came with the hob(Seimens), it makes no noise at all, good pans worth the investment as also make hob work quicker.

BIWI · 03/11/2019 20:39

Well so far, with the IKEA pans I've bought, as well as a couple of Sainsbury ones, I haven't had any noise at all

Mummyshark2018 · 03/11/2019 20:41

We've recently fitted integrated AEG appliances in the kitchen and are very happy with them. Oven is so easy to use.

BentNeckLady · 03/11/2019 20:43

We’ve just had our new kitchen fitted out with neff appliances and we’ve had to have an engineer out to every one of them except the microwave so I really wouldn’t recommend them.

The Samsung fridge arrived with a faulty ice cube maker too Hmm

Not the experience you expect when spending £5k on gadgetry.

QuestaVecchiaCasa · 03/11/2019 23:10

We had AEG appliances in our Magnet kitchen 3 years ago and we've already had to get the hob and oven repaired. Also the dishwasher kept tripping the fuse and in the end we gave up and have replaced it with a Siemans one.

WTCT · 04/11/2019 07:03

New kitchen with AEG appliances fitted 4 years ago

Oven was faulty, as was cooker hood
Already had to replace dishwasher (which was crap)

Never again. Overpriced garbage.

foxatthewindow · 04/11/2019 07:38

Wow, that’s terrible! As you say, the full appliance set for a new kitchen is £5k+ so very disappointing. My old Neff ones were installed in 2015 (different house) and were fine so I guess I’ll stick with them. Loads of places are pushing AEG as being more modern than ‘gimmicky Neff’ with the slide and hide. I wonder if the profit margin is higher...

OP posts:
BIWI · 04/11/2019 07:46

I love my hide and slide Neff oven!

BinkySodPlop · 06/11/2019 15:37

I'm in the process of buying a new kitchen, and in the same situation. Think I've decided that the Neff with self clean and Hide and Slide is the oven for me, but was seriously considering the AEG combi fuel hob with 2x gas and 2x induction. Has anyone tried this kind of hob?

Csatina · 28/12/2019 15:47

Hi everyone,
I’m in the same debate at the moment. So I went to Curry’s to see the built quality and to be honest I was disappointed with both AEG and NEFF. The sub £500 ovens control hobs very wobbly on both brands. The £600+ range seems to be better. Bosch ovens seems to be much better in terms of built quality, but the AEG induction hob seems to be the best value for money with FlexiZones on both side and automatic pan size recognition features. I can’t find any highly recommended Bosch hob. The one I considered with NEFF is £200+ more expensive then AEG. I like the look of the NEFF cooker hood more then AEG or Bosch. Definitely want the same brand for cooker hood, induction hob and oven. Can’t decide...😢

AEV002 · 25/02/2020 12:00

just contemplating AEG hob and Hood at the moment AEG is cheaper buy about £100 pound and hood is more powerful than Neff but interested what you went with

AEV002 · 25/02/2020 12:05

I also looked at Fisher and Paykel anybody got these they look lovely?

Csatina · 25/02/2020 12:39

Well, not decided yet as the flat purchase didn’t go through yet. However I went to Curry’s to check them out and the control panel seems to be quite flimsy for a £500-£600 oven. And that applies for both AEG and Neff. Bosch ovens seems to be better built quality but AEG and Neff induction hubs.
Let me know what you go with in the future please

AEV002 · 25/02/2020 15:04

I'm definitely going for this oven from Donaghy Bros Neff B57CR22N0B Pyrolytic Slide and Hide Single Electric Oven, Stainless Steel
£749.99 (good price), and although not totally sure the Neff N70 Compact 45cm Oven with Microwave C17MR02N0B although I think it's a bit expensive and have heard good and bad reports. It's just the Hob and Hood still not sure about.
