Easy to clean shower enclosure

🚿🚿🚿Hi - would value some advice re shower enclosures please. We are getting a new ensuite bathroom and the main priority for my shower enclosure is it must be easy to clean! 😆 I don’t think we have enough space for a wet room/walk in shower so can anybody recommend a good enclosure design which they’ve found easy to clean please. Feeling nervous about sliding doors as lots of moving parts suggests lots of areas for dirt to accumulate 😩... thoughts? Thanks in advance

Sliding doors are a nightmare because there is a bit where the doors overlap which is impossible to clean and where soap scum accumulates.
Black tiles are also impossible to keep clean.
With the benefit of hindsight I would go for a door which opens inwards and a mottled grey surround.

Thanks @ChocolateTeapot23 - what do you mean by ‘surround’ please?

I think they mean tiles.

Ah thanks

If you live in a hard water area get a water softener...

EnriqueTheRingBearingLizard · 01/11/2019 22:15

Mine has no door. It's a large tray and the shower control is on the short side of the wall. The cabinet bit is two pieces of glass supported off each wall, just one long piece and one short side. There's nothing to trap grime that way.

EnriqueTheRingBearingLizard · 01/11/2019 22:21

Actually I was not only wrong but described what I have really badly. It's an L shaped piece on the long side and then a shorter piece at right angles off the long inner wall.

Like this but with another piece of glass

but it's all set over a shower tray, so not a wet room arrangement if that makes sense now? Blush

angea09 · 01/11/2019 22:53

Enrique what are the dimensions of your tray? Does the bathroom get wet with no door? 🤔

No, it doesn’t get wet and there’s a pump to increase water pressure. I’ll measure it tomorrow Smile

My mum has a wall covering in her shower instead of tiles and I love it! There’s no grouting to get stained and need replacing and as she uses a squeegy on it after every use it doesn’t need cleaning often ! She squeegies the door down after each use so very little limescale stains either x

I've had a look and the glass in mine is by Daryl.

The long L shaped piece measures 940 x 370 and the single shorter piece is 370 wide.

The shower tray itself is 1400 x 880 but within that is a lower sunken square measuring approx 680.

One thing to mention is that the arrangement needs a high flow waste.

I did see this screen

which is similar but without the return piece.

The overall look is this, but with a shorter end panel. It's also on a tray and not a wet room, but my tray doesn't have a lip around the edge because of the sunken inner square.

I can also recommend a wave style shower head

I have a walk in type shower - long rectangular tray with a glass screen. Much easier to keep clean after years of living with sliding doors.

RandomMess · 02/11/2019 14:57

My friend has a walk in shower the size of her bath as she swapped bath for this.

It has a low profile tray, one long piece of glass with a narrow section that hinges at the dry end - it doesn't get wet tbh.

If your water is not soft I can only reiterate what a huge difference a water softener will make!

MadameLeFunky · 02/11/2019 15:31

We have sliding doors. They are sparkling and easy to keep clean imo, even though we have hard water.

I use a daily spray and a glass squeegee - which gets behind the overlap of doors very easily.

angea09 · 02/11/2019 17:20

What about in the tracks @MadameLeFunky? How do you clean those... where the doors overlap? I like the idea of sliding as it’s space saving and doors keep the water in but worried it will get minging!

Hi. Not really sure what you mean exactly but these are the kind of tracks it has.

MadameLeFunky · 02/11/2019 18:19

The little bit where the two doors overlap creates a long cavity down the length of the door but this is 'sealed' with a flexible seal so it's easy to push aside to get cloths or a squeegee in there.

MadameLeFunky · 02/11/2019 18:30

I am pretty sure this one is my shower (but cannot rememeber):

You can get self/easy clean glass these days.

Chocolatedeficitdisorder · 02/11/2019 18:42

I have an offset quad enclosure. The sliding glass door pops out easily so you can clean the track

IWorkAtTheCheescakeFactory · 02/11/2019 18:43

I clean showers for a living. By far the easiest ones are ones with panels on the walls rather than tiles. So one large panel cut to fit for each side of the shower and then for the “door” just one glass panel if you have space to open it (opening into the shower is better for cleaning it but opening out is fine if you don’t have space in the shower)
