Caernarfon?

An acquaintance is selling their home in Caernarfon, currently used as holiday home. We've been thinking of buying some sort of home in north Wales as we spend a lot of time in Anglesey and so we were thinking about potential buying, but we don't know anything really about the town at all. We've got two young children and plan for more. We know it's majority Welsh speaking and having a google about the town it seems a mixture of pretty grim news stories about town centre violence, images of the castle and the beauty of the countryside and not much else, though there does seem to be plans for future investment. Would you buy a holiday home there?

I personally would not - it has a charm around the castle and couple of nice restaurants but is generally very run down and not that special except for a location to get to some amazing places.. not much business or investment that I have seen over the years going there (family live there)

Depends what you are looking for - but If was to buy and was looking for a good return and access to snowdonia, I would be looking further down the Llyn peninsular - not in but around Abersoch or Cricieth which I think is a far nicer little town ..

Thanks that's very helpful. Its a shame because parts of it look stunning and location is tempting in terms of access to everywhere we love but the more I look the more it doesnt seem like the best idea!
