Lubricant for curtain pole

I'm having trouble with one of my metal curtain poles.

I'm using metal rings which are plastic on the inside (the bit that touches the pole).

The curtains are very stiff to draw as the rings aren't running smoothly on the pole.

I've tried cleaning the pole with a damp cloth and also with white spirit. I've tried lubricating the pole with olive oil, but it only works for a week or so.

Can anyone suggest anything I could use as a lubricant?

Furniture polish or hairspray?

As previous poster says furniture polish is the answer. Nothing fancy just a spray type, they contain silicone which acts as a lubricant. It makes a huge improvement to the sliding action.

Furniture polish here too. Spray it fairly liberally on a duster then run the dust along the pole a couple of times - works a treat

Or change the rings.

I've just tried some multi-surface polish (I don't have any furniture polish) and that seems to have worked nicely.

yes, a dry wax. Not an oil or grease as it will trap dirt.

Hair serum with silicone in it

But the £1 hair serum from Tesco seems quite similar.
