Structural Engineer

I have discovered a very nasty crack in the upstairs wall of my house and need to identify the cause in order to organise repairs.
Can anyone recommend a reliable structural engineer and what kind of cost it will be?
Thanks.

Do you have buildings insurance? You could try asking them to come and look at the crack.

Yes I do have. Unfortunately they are a waste of time. But thanks for the suggestion Smile
All ideas welcome.

I can't recommend one because I'm not in your area, but when we had to have a report done a few years ago I think it cost around £300. But, that was a report which was about four pages long, explaining why there was nothing wrong with the structure (it was for our mortgage company). If there is a fault and they have to go into a lot of detail, maybe it would be more expensive?
