Pop up sink plug

readitandwept · 15/10/2019 22:23

My bathroom sink isn't draining anyway and I have no idea to unblock it as I have a pop up plug (pictured) which I assumed just unscrewed Blush

A very quick glance at YouTube seems to advise dismantling my sink. Is that right?! I'll not be doing that, I'll get a plumber. Just wanted to check that's correct before I phone one.

Thanks

Is it the type that you push down and it clicks in place or is it one that has a lever by the tap that pushes it down/up? If it's the latter, then it should just pull out, otherwise it should unscrew (is it turning around?)

It should unscrew, anti-clockwise I think it was. Then poke down the gaps beside it, run hot tap to wash it away.

It's just a clicky in one. I can't unscrew it and was scared to force it in case it wasn't meant to be unscrewed.

It should unscrew. Squirt it with loads of WD40 using the straw thing to get underneath. Let it sit a while then try again. Use a cloth or rubble glove to grip it. Sometimes a gentle tap with a mallet helps loosen it.

Have you tried a bit if caustic soda down the plughole?

Does it just pull out? Ours has a sort of groove near the end where it sits onto the mechanism. If you lift the plug, then give it a gentle pull it comes out.

Thanks all! Saved me an embarrassing call out to the plumber!

I'll give it another bash tomorrow.

Haven't put anything down it as the gaps too small to squirt anything down there. Will get unblocker tomorrow and see off it'll shift it just by being left to trickle down

I have found that with this type of plug you need to do two things. First unscrew plug and clean off hair etc. Secondly take u-bend ( actually t shaped) and clean it out.

Try pumping it with a sink plunger
