We have just had an offer accepted on a house, and are looking for recommendations for a surveyor to do a proper building survey. Just wondering if anyone has any recommendations? Thanks!

Look on the website for the RICS.
The Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors. They are the professional body all surveyors belong to. Their site can be searched by area and specialisation as required.
Once you have some local area names ring them for a chat etc and appoint one according to taste.

See if you can find one who's been in the area a long time as well. A very experienced surveyor will know about all of the features of typical local housing, and the ground composition and how this affects houses. I find that's really helpful and you'll be in good hands.

Thanks @Echobelly, that makes sense!

I used Bakemans Limited. They were by far the best price for a full building survey (well worth it as lots of issues regarding damp course having failed flagged up). If I recall it was about £350. The survey took a bit longer than agreed to be sent through but they did get the surveyor to ring me and discuss his findings so I could go back to the vendor.
