Having playroom in another building?

House hunting and would really appreciate thoughts on this...

We want 5 bedrooms (one for a spare), and a playroom as well as a living room but struggling to find this in budget in location. Seen a house that is great in many ways but only has 4 beds plus living room & kitchen in the main house building, but masses of space in the barns (currently office and storage) across the yard. i think it would be fine having a spare room across the yard, but not sure about how the playroom would function like that. Kids are 11, 8 and 4 so don’t need constant supervision by any means but would they actually go across the yard in the damp & wet to play? Anyone had a similar set up?

It doesn't seem right that they are not in the same house. Can you add a glass tunnel/extension to join up the two parts?

I doubt it would get much use until the teenage years

It will really come into its own in teenage years. We had a similar space as children. Teenage years were great. Will probably drive you mad getting them in for dinner though!

My 11 year old thinks she would love it but advises me that her siblings wouldn’t...

The yard is too big to join the two buildings up in any way. Hmm, it would be possible to extend the main house though.

We had a playroom when ours were little but in reality it became one large walk in toy cupboard because they always preferred to play right at my feet!

But for the teenage years, excellent. I'd put in a ping pong table.

I'd go for it, sounds like a lot of outside space, they'll be teenagers before you know it.

Same here. A large bedroom each and a playroom but they just wanted to be in the living room where I was. We didn’t mind though.

We don’t actually currently have a playroom so I know it isn’t vital... we had one in an old house and it did get used. But all the kids were younger then of course.

We’re the same we have a playroom but they rarely play in it as like to be near me, so it’s a large toy storage room!
