Thinking of moving to Welwyn garden city

Hi, l am considering moving to Welwyn Garden City in order to be closer to London than l am currently. DD will have to move from her secondary school which isn't a problem as she tells me every day she hates her current school. She wants to be nearer to London as well because she was born there and misses it. Can anyone advise me on areas? After selling our house we'd end up with about £350,000 cash. Thanks

Knightsfield, AL8, is the best area. The secondary school is Monks Walk.

Thank you. I'll type that post code into zoopla.

I don't know the area but just looked the at stats. Monks Walk looks like a very good school. The other 3 schools in WGC look awful so I'd check that your daughter has any chance at all of getting into the one good school.

WGC isn't that close to London really.

It's a Quaker town, so is lacking pubs.

It's nice enough though.

What l like about it.though as there's a train to king's cross that takes 24 minutes.

A lot of us with DC are not looking for pubs. However the villages around Welwyn have plenty. It’s a good train service and a decent place to live. You could look around Berkhamsted too. That’s quite a short trip into London too.

WGC is a great place to live. The town has enough shops and a few good pubs/restaurants, and yes, it's close enough to London by train 😁

Thank you. We don't drink, so we don't mind about pubs. I will also look up Berkhampstead, thank you.

Berkhamsted is probably more expensive. WGC is a good place to live. Monks Walk is consistently a good school so is Bishop's Hatfield (Close). Excellent links to London and good community feel. Nice local council. Pretty good health and social care ( with usual budget constraints). Lots of nice villages close by. Lots of village pubs. Nice places to eat close too. Waitrose and John Lewis. Used to live close by and always shopped there

Hi All

I hope it's ok to add here, we are moving to the area and I was hoping to get some recommendations of good pre-schools/ nurseries not too far from Attimore road AL8. TIA x
