2 washing machines

Anyone else have 2 washing machines? I don't have 2 I use regularly. I just keep a spare in the garage just in case my main one breaks, its not even plumbed in. My OH is wanting to get rid of the spare to make room in the garage and it is giving me palpitations thinking of not having a spare lol

Oh gosh OP, you are just like my DP!

He will not get rid of a old washer "just incase" it's from fucking 1992!! But still works fully. It's in storage. We don't use it.

I think if it's the only thing you want to keep "just incase" then it's fine, however if you have a garage full of tat for "just incase" then yes bin it.

Lol, my grandad used to have a shed full of shit too. Old kettles, the lot lol.

I have 2. A big American one and a normal sized European one. I tend to use the European one day to day (as it is more eco friendly and gets everything really clean) but the huge one is great for duvets or if we have loads of outstanding laundry. I don’t see the point in having another if it isn’t even plumbed in? Surely you could just order a new one if the original breaks.

I love the idea of an American one and a European one, the American ones wash loads really quickly but you are right they don’t wash that clean so no good for rugby kit or whites. I wouldn’t keep an unplumbed machine in the garage, AO.com deliver next day if it goes wrong or you can collect immediately from Curry’s.

Helpmedecide123 · 08/10/2019 06:59

I have two. One for my dog's mucky towels and blankets etc - he's a springer spaniel and we spend a lot of time outdoors. The other is for clothes and domestic laundry.

Fairylea · 08/10/2019 07:02

I’d love to have a second plumbed in one for washing pet stuff in. Sadly we don’t have the room. As others have said if you’re really stuck AO deliver the next day.

QOD · 08/10/2019 07:30

Not plumbed in makes it pointless and probably too corroded to work with perished rubber too
Plumbed in ? Ermagad yes
My ma lives in our annexe and we share a utility area - 2 washers 2 dryers. Always a spare!

CapturedFairy · 08/10/2019 07:33

Only 1 washing machine but a daily schedule for what gets washed and when my machine died I ordered a new one and it was either delivered the next day or the day after, and I do think it was AO.com

2 would be if you had a big family say 6 of you and both would be plumbed in and being used, having a spare is a bit ridiculous.

stucknoue · 08/10/2019 07:36

Only when we had an old one from a previous house, when we tried to plumb it in (the one in the house broke) it had seized up

JoJoSM2 · 08/10/2019 07:37

I’m not a hoarder so only one (but can see the logic for having a separate pet one). If the machine breaks you can have a new one arrive in 2-3 days. If you’re desperate to put a wash on the meantime, you could go to a laundrette or ask a neighbour.

PancakeAndKeith · 08/10/2019 07:41

If it’s not plumbed in and being used then I don’t see the point.
As said above you can get one delivered next day so why worry.

johnd2 · 08/10/2019 09:09

I'd say get rid. Relative to the space it takes up it's not really providing value. Washing machines are massive.
You can list it on gum tree or next door app and get a few quid for it, if it's still working (or sold as seen someone might take it for free)

Frazzled2207 · 08/10/2019 09:11

We have a big cellar for stuff like this and when we bought the new washing machine we kept the old one, albeit not plumbed in, just in case.

That said in the 6 or so years we've had it, it has never been used. Totally redundant but we just happen to have the space, and can't be fussed getting it up the stairs out of the cellar either!

LickYouLikeACrispPacket · 08/10/2019 09:18

I have two. An older one I use for dog stuff and trainers etc and a new one just for clothes. I think it makes so much sense!

td035050 · 08/10/2019 14:13

I guess I probably don’t need a spare but with 5 people in the house I have always felt I couldn’t cope even for a day if my machine broke. Kids now teenagers so should probably just get rid of it.....OH will be so pleased Smile

Shouldn’t really give me ideas for a second larger machine for duvets 😱😭
