Extending an extension: anyone done this?!

I had a builder out to quote for some other work last week. I happened to mention that I am having the kitchen done for my next big job, and grumbled at how small it was.

He mentioned that as it was already extended (by 1.5m long and 2.2m wide, who the fuck extends so little?!!) it would be cheaper to extend further as rsj is already in place.

Anyway, he is going to quote it next week when he comes to do my other job. His rates are very reasonable for what it's worth. I've seen his work elsewhere and know he is reliable and very good at what he does though. I'm just pondering over what kind of price I might be looking at. Just for the extension. I have a separate budget for the kitchen. I'd probably extend by the same amount again, because at the moment there is hardly any cupboard space, or work surfaces. No room for a dishwasher. Which breaks my heart a litte lot. Any ideas on this? Thanks! Grin

Given current permitted development rights a small single story rear extension could be extended up to the max permitted dev quite easily. The rsj to the house is unlikely to be changed, but you'll still need demolition, foundations, drains, new roof etc so suspect it won't be much cheaper.
