One radiator isn’t getting hot

My living room radiator isn’t heating up. All the other radiators are fine. The small bit of pipe leading to it (coming out the floor) isn’t hot either.

I’ve tried:

  • bleeding it, lots of air came out but didn’t make a difference. Water was clear when it came out.
  • the pin on the Thermostat valve seems to move freely like the other working radiators.
  • I’ve turned all the other radiators off and checked to see whether the cold one got hot- it didn’t heat at all.

Any other suggestions of things I can try before I call a plumber?

Thanks!

Have you checked the water pressure on your boiler?

Yep, pressure on the boiler is fine

We recently had this and had to replace the valves on the radiator. Have you checked that the valves are open?

I think I’ve fixed it! Opened the lock shield valve and suddenly the pipes leading up to it are boiling and the radiator itself is definitely getting warm. Feel strangely proud of myself Grin

Sometimes radiators need balancing to ensure they all heat up.
